The Life Of Henry Martyn

575 in stock

Born in Cornwall in 1781, Henry Martyn came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ while studying Mathematics at Cambridge University. A desire for missionary work took him to India as a chaplain to British soldiers. There he began his greatest work for the extension of Christ’s kingdom: the translation of the Christian Scriptures.

Living in India, sojourning in Persia, and assisted in the task, he produced the New Testament and other parts of the Bible in Hindustani (Urdu) and Persian (Farsi), and supported translation work into Arabic.

A chaplain to soldiers, a preacher to beggars, a light to Hindus, a challenge to Catholics, a confessor before Muslims, and a wonder to Sufis, he died at the age of 31—a servant of Christ.

This book draws on Martyn’s own words as it tells the story of one who burned out for God.
