Mine was a goody-goody religion. But when any temptation came, I would be knocked down. I knew what was wrong but had no power to cleanse or correct my ways. When Jesus opened my eyes as a boy of 15, I could see how my life was being wasted.

At Jesus’ feet I poured out my heart and a new life began for me. God began to teach me how true faith in the risen Saviour would make me a winner instead of my being full of defeat and cowardice. Oh, that you also will

While living in Ireland, Ann Preston left home as a teen, taking up as a housekeeper to strict Methodist, Dr. Robert Reid and his family. Soon she moved with them to Canada, settling in Thornhill, Ontario.

Having found God through the doctor, she developed an intimate relationship with God. She took to constant reflection, often praying out loud and about each and every seemingly insignificant thing. “Father, where did I put that laundry? Father, what am I going to do about supper tonight?’, ‘Father, help me through today…” Neighborhood children once wrote “Holy Ann lives here. Go in and have a Word” on the door of the Reid home, and the name stuck.

Once mocked, however, she was soon a legend when it was rumored that she was able to perform miracles. One hot summer, the well had gone dry. She prayed an entire day and night, and the next morning was able to pull out two buckets full of fresh water. Soon, neighbors flocked to her side to receive healing and prayer.

Upon her death she was mentioned by clergy across the province and the Mayor of Toronto stated, “This week I had two honors. I met with the President of the USA and I participated in the funeral of Ann Preston. I regard the latter as the greater honor!”

The life of Ann Preston will stir every reader to a deep prayer life and holy living.

It is truly sad that, as one moves along the Interstate today past Utica, Troy, and Adams, towards New York, there appears not to be even an ember remaining of the great revival fires God set ablaze through Charles Grandison Finney. Surely, if Christians would obey God’s call to them as Finney did, the whole world would once again know a living God rules on the earth. It has been estimated that at least a hundred thousand souls were converted to Christ during Finney’s ministry; the vast majority of whom remained true to the end of their lives. A New York lawyer by profession, Mr. Finney was soundly converted, subsequent to reading the Bible as part of his law studies. Unlike many of us who may think heart-converting revival a thing of the past, or not part of our responsibility, Finney’s response to Jesus’ ownership of his life resulted in prolific evidences of the fruits of the Holy Spirit, emphatically proving the reality of God, His Kingdom, and His righteousness. Wherever Finney went, revival fires broke out, thousands were brought to an eternal trust in the living God; and God’s righteousness was established in the lives of many.

While suffering the loss of all things, and being attacked for his preaching, in one case being sewn into a sack and left to die; in another, being thrown into a well and locked in, Sundar Singh experienced many divine interventions and signal instances of God’s favor.
